Training Courses and Racing – March 2025
Two training courses are being offered this year for GenerationJOG members to develop their experience and skills on the water. These courses cater to a variety of skill levels, from members looking to start yacht racing to those seeking to improve their sail trimming and helming abilities.
Course One: Helming and Sail Trim Training
Date: 15 March 2025
This one-day course is designed for members who have prior racing experience and wish to deepen their understanding of sail trim and helming techniques. Participants will gain confidence in trimming mainsails, jibs, and spinnakers across a variety of yachts. With the guidance of experienced coaches on board, this course offers an excellent opportunity to enhance your existing skills and engage in discussions about all aspects of keelboat racing. There are 20 places available, and participation will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis. To secure your place please complete the Course One application form and submit a payment of £10, payment link is accessible after the form is submitted.
Course Two: Introduction to Yacht Racing
Date: 20 to 23 March 2025
This course includes two race training days and two days of JOG racing in the Lonely Tower and Great Escape races. It will be a great opportunity to build confidence and experience on the water! Based out of Gosport and Cowes, the course will cover the following:
What to expect when you go racing
Safety equipment
Sail hoists and drops, tacks and gybes
Mainsail, jib and Asymmetric spinnaker trim
Helming
The training, led by experienced RYA Yachtmaster Instructors and race skippers, is designed for both newcomers and those with limited experience in yacht racing. You will have the chance to learn new skills, connect with like-minded people, meet skippers seeking crew, and take part in some of the best inshore racing of the 2025 JOG calendar! There are eight places available, and participation will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis.
